Anderson Redskins (1-0)

Division I, Region 4
Head Coach: Jeff Giesting (37-6 overall)
2009 Record: 12-1, 5-0 FAVC Buckeye, Southwest Regional Runner-Up
Key Losses: Brandon Bornhauser, Kyle Slater, Andrew Norwell, Greg Manz

Players to Watch: Tommy Chapman, K; Tony Martini, LB; Thomas Krutka, DB

Fast Fact: The Anderson Redskins have been very impressive under head coach Jeff Giesting. The last 3 years, the Redskins have an impressive resume- Division II State Champions, Division II State Runner-Ups and Division I Southwest Regional Runner-ups. Those days are in the past now though as a new set of character’s tries to put their stamp on the programs recent run of success.

On Offense: The Redskins’ offense is very complex with a number of different players being involved in it every contest. The skill players are a strength of the Redskins. One challenge will be replacing key linemen. The overall offensive line size is definitely not as large as years past.

Running backs Jake Nelson and Tanner Bronhaver will handle the bulk of the carries. Receiver Jordan Shelton could be a shot in the arm for the aerial attack if he can spread the field with his speed.

Kicker Tommy Chapman will look to play a larger role than he has the past two years. He has the ability to put points up as well as change the field position.

On Defense: Two quality defensive backs return -Thomas Krutka and Chris Shingleton. Combined with Linebacker Tony Martini and you have a trio of excellent leaders to help keep opposing teams’ points down. Line play will also be important on defense.

Woodward Bulldogs (0-1)

Division I, Region 4
Head Coach: Jeremy Patterson
2009 Record: 2-8

Players to Watch: Senior QB Kiez Gordon; senior Chris Jones SR; senior RB Jeffon Peoples; senior DB Anthony Cooper; senior WR Ore Jackson; senior OL Anthony DuPree; senior OL Markieth Brock; senior OL Jervell Swain.

Fast Fact: Woodward last won the league title in 2008

Outlook:  Gordon returns after tearing his ACL on the first play of last season's first scrimmage. The injury contributed heavily to the Bulldogs' 2-8 season after earning a playoff berth with an undefeated regular season in 2008.

"That was a blow we weren't prepared for so soon in the season," said Patterson.
This year's team is filled with players with varsity experience who are looking to prove that 2008 was no fluke.
